Before retiring in 2004, for more than 30 years, Julius Caruso owned a salon at 72 East 55th Street, across Park Avenue from Enrico Caruso's shop at 110 East 55th Street, and the brothers had rosters of famous clients, including Ann Sheridan, Marilyn Monroe, Joan Rivers, Hugh Downs and members of the Ford, Rockefeller and Vanderbilt families, said Julius's wife, Aurora.
These matchbooks arrive here at Jerry’s Vintage Trading from large, well cared for collections from all over the U.S. - where the collector had the foresight decades ago to preserve the original look and feel of what are now 50, 60 and in some cases 70+ year old treasures of graphic and cultural history - by not stripping out the matches. I have sold 1,000’s of packs over the years and often receive interesting and heartfelt work and family related stories about the buyer's personal connections and memories that they bring.
