For a time since 1893 and at least into the 1920's, the Minnesota branch location was known as "Deere & Webber" - Webber being John Deere's grandson. Charles Webber was a major figure in the John Deere company's history. In 1877, at age 18, Webber started as a mail clerk / office boy, then 2 years later in sales and credit. In 1881, he was sent to Minneapolis to work with a business partner of John's son, Charles to develop a retail location. By 1883 Webber was a partner. In 1893 the company's ownership had changed and the new name was "Deere & Webber". Webber went on as vice president of Deere & Co for decades until his death in 1944 at age 85.
