Railroads (like many other large companies and municipalities) often issued bonds for large amounts where the certificate had as many as 100 small detachable "coupon" notes that allowed investors to buy as many smaller portions that were still available - and retained them for the term until maturity to redeem the amount on the face of the coupon on the date indicated. They often featured tiny versions of the same illustrated vignettes as the much larger bond it was part of.
Scarce. On American Bank Note Co. paper stock. Showing signs of wear and handling consistent with its age. Creases, but no tears or loss. Overall, in good condition. Will display well in your collection. It measures approx. 1 1/4" x 2 7/8"
