Welcome to my listing for:
"Hello Charlie" Western Electric Windshield Employee 1956 Pageant Winner Decal
Beginning in 1930, Western Electric introduced what would be a popular decades-long yearly beauty pageant that was open to all of the 25,000+- employees of the company nationwide. Candidates were selected on the basis of appearance, personality, poise and job performance. It became a big deal quickly. At the height of the pageant's popularity, there were noon-time coronation ceremonies at the plant's recreation center and "Family Nights" that were attended by as many as 2,000 employees. Afterwards, the winner would make public appearances at places such as Sears Roebuck and the local Elks Club and public school events and there were many engagement\ and marriage announcement newspaper articles that made mention of the woman being a "Hello Charlie" pageant winner. Each year's winners also had their face put on these decals that were distributed to employees company-wide and were meant to be displayed on a car windshield to function as ID at the plant or office building. These are very scarce and rarely come up for sale. This example is one of the 25 different designs that arrived together as a collection - where there is only one of each - I have no duplicates. Below is a link to see the others.
On die cut paper. Unused. Does not appear to have any gummed surface. Lays flat. Showing barely any signs of wear and handling consistent with its age. No folds, creases, tears or loss. Clean surfaces. Colors are vibrant. Overall, in very good condition. Will display well in your collection. At its widest points, it measures approx. 4" x 5 1/8"
You will receive the exact example as shown in the photos. **Ships securely in poly sleeve with chipboard inside a rigid mailer via USPS First Class Service w/ tracking**
