Bye & Company Taswell, IN G/F 5¢ in Merchandise Token 20mm (Gen Store?*) (#2)
Taswell (the town name originally should have been named after the Laswell family of early settlers - but Postal authorities misspelled it as Taswell) was surveyed in 1872. Lots were sold until 1900 - the first lot sold to a business was lot number five to Bye & Company, presumably a general store. Shortly after the railroad went through town in 1881, the population was estimated at approx. 150 people. Between 1882 and 1894, the first four liquor licenses were issued, The following year, a Post Office was established and was discontinued in 1996. The depot was still standing up until at least the late 1990s. I spent considerable time & cannot find any additional “Bye & Co." info.
