Scranton, PA N.B. Levy and Bro. Jewelers 1908 "C.B. Engel" Billhead Silver Case
Having been involved in the jewelry business since 1890, Charles B. Engel operated a jewelry & “collateral loan bank” business that loaned money against “diamonds, watches and other valuables” (essentially a pawn shop) at 107 Lackawanna Ave, then in 1907 moved over to 217 Lackawanna Ave. in Scranton PA. In 1907,Engel added an optometrist service and installed a very large “lollipop” advertising clock on the sidewalk just outside the store. By 1910, Engel was running large display ads in the local papers featuring “Pre-Inventory” & “⅓ off sales” (the same gimmicks as used today, 100 years later:) In the 1940’s, radios were added to the stores offerings. In 1950, at the age of 82, after battling a long illness and after 60 years at his business in Scranton, Mr. Engel passed away at his home. This billhead is related to one of Mr. Engel’s suppliers.
Showing only minor signs of wear consistent with its age. No tears or loss. Expected fold creases from posting. All text are legible. Eye-catching bold mixed header type face / font. Overall, in very good condition. Will display well in your collection. It measures approx. 5 1/4" x 8 1/4"
You will receive the exact example shown in the photos. **Ships securely (possibly folded at one or more existing creases) in a poly bag, sandwiched with chipboard inside a flat rigid mailer**
